I love cars, but I'm not about my car. I don't know if that makes sense, but there are a whole lot of things more important to me. I'm not worried about the ooo-ahhh, at this point, I'm practical. I have a safe, economical, very nice car that I love! It's a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander.
That being said, oooo-ahhh, I love the classics. I love a big fat 40's or 50's classic beast, all Detroit steel and sex appeal, diamond pleat leather seats with a big huge steering wheel, LOL! =o) Hey, I think that could be a song in there somewhere, but I suppose the point is, if I could put aside practicality, I'd love and appreciate having a gorgeous classic car. I learned a lot about cars from my dad. He would like this one for sure. Dad will be 72 in 10 days, but you'd never guess it. He looks much younger. Dad is also a well loved classic, and hey Dad, happy birthday a little bit early!!! I'm really glad you were born! I love you so much!

There is no doubt as to where the business end of pollination should happen with this plant. Some nights when there are lots of blooms, you cannot believe the myriad of insects that are attracted to it. HUGE moths flutter around it, and my theory is, they are it’s best friends, and probably able to get that pollen way down inside the sassy part there. Ants also love this bloom, and I saw a couple of dead ones in the petals. My theory is they ate too much!
When night time temps stay over 75 degrees, and there is lots of rain, it's time for the Queen to bloom. This plant only blooms at night, and each bloom lasts for only one night. I never get tired of her.
This is a Night Blooming Cereus, aka, Queen of The Night, aka Pitaya, aka Dragon Fruit Bloom. It's quite exotic, and you have to keep an eye on her during the day to predict when she will actually bloom. This bloom was on my neighbor's side of the fence. I checked our side today, and it has some small buds. I would guess next weekend, they will bloom. Will keep you "posted". =o)
If we are lucky, she will be properly pollinated, and we will have fruit. The fruit of our plant is hot pink on the outside and white with little black seeds on the inside. Some species are pink all the way through. The fruit has a mild watermelon flavor to me.

Black and yellow argiope spider. Argiope aurantia This gorgeous spider is hanging out in our Plumbago bush. The spider has a well formed web, with a nice zig-zag pattern running through the middle. It bounces and sways in the breeze. I’m kind of hoping it doesn’t rain hard tonight, so I can check on this spider tomorrow.
I took these photos on the fly after getting back from errands. I also took Jessi the Wonder Dog to Campbell's Dairyland for a doggie cone. She loves to go anywhere with me, but especially loves the park, PetSmart and Campbell's.

Maybe I do need a mollusk/gastropod set! LOL! I saw these snail eggs in one of the "ponds" that run along Providence road. My hubby and I going in to have lunch at Mimi's Cafe.
They were very pretty and pink! I'm kind of surprised at their number. That's a lot of eggs. I think they are interesting. Close up, you can see their yolks, a darker pink. The snails had also laid their egss on the cement wall around the whatcamacallit. (The culvert. I could not think of that word...culvert. Thanks Naturepic08!) Anyway, I assume my nature nutty Flickr friends might find this interesting as I did.
I was feeling the melancholy today, and I haven't really been shooting much or posting much the last couple of weeks. Mabel has been on my mind, work has been good though hectic, and I even left my camera at home a couple of days. It was good to see and shoot something weird, odd, cool. Life is short, and I always want the sad parts to go faster.

More weirdness this season of sandhill cranes. I'm 85% sure this is Fresca, and Fanta was with him. Fresca's feathers have been thick and boofy on his head, pertty much since birth. And who do you think he and Fanta were following down the road at a distance of about 50 yards. I believe it was Classic, Cherry and Pibb. I'm not kidding. Fresca and Fanta tried to rejoin their parents not long after Pibb was born. Classic politely ran them off, but now that Pibb is quite well grown, they don't seem to mind Fresca and Fanta tagging along a bit behind. That is my theory, and I'll be keeping an eye on them, and hopefully getting closer shots.

I think it's Hylephila phyleus, but do tell if you think it's something else. I love the fuzz on the bloom and on the bug. My hubby likes the bokeh and said it looks kind of 3D. =o)
I took this at Kerby's Nursery today. They are so nice, and it is a beautiful nursery. I bought a passion flower vine today. I'm excited, and need to figure out where it will thrive in our yard. Any input is welcome.
Have a great weekend!

I think the easiest form of this magic is expressed in service to others, people you know, and people you don't know, you just feel their need. It usually comes back to you many times over. When I think about stories of genies, leprechauns and such and the three wishes, the obvious is usually that there would be a different outcome if the wisher made all three wishes for others.
It would be fun to try! rub-rub-rub...rub-rub-rub... =o)
This is another one of my neighbor's little gilted pitchers. I think it is a most spendid specimen, even if I never get a genie out of it! LOL!

This is our neighbor's dog Cricket, in our pool. She's a good swimmer without the jacket, but it's cute to see it in action too.
Jessi has a life jacket too, and we find the best part is the handle. If she falls in the drink, we can pluck her out. She's never fallen out when we were moving, I keep her close, but we let her off the lead when we stop to fish or hang out, and a couple of times she has fallen in while looking over the edge of the boat.

They were YUMMY! Freshly made and just beautiful in appearance too. I like the shiny little teapot and the Thai Tea in the background. My hubby and I had lunch at Jasmine Thai on Lumsden and Providence Sunday. It was a good pick. I had the Tom Yum soup, one of my favorites and a mixed vegetable red curry, while Derrick had the yellow curry and the cream of mushroom soup. The little egg rolls which came with our entree were crispy and delicious too! Our server was also delightful as was the restaurant itself.
It was crazy busy out on the roads as people were out for the tax free weekend.

I almost missed him. I was photographing a Sandhill Crane Family for at least 20 minutes, and was turning to leave when I spotted this GBH well camoflaged and chillin' out among the cool green leaves. I think it's kind of a neat shot, and my hubby likes it. That's enough for me! =o)

Kind of a bookend to the previous post, same crane. This is a juvenile Sandhill Crane, probably 5-6 months old based on it's head color. Still some gray there, but filling in nicely. Of course you can't see that since this crane has its head mostly in the ground. Looks like he's impersonating an Ostrich. Sandhill Cranes are good diggers, especially of there is some reward down there, which I assume there is, or what's the point?
From my car, I spotted this crane family down by a pond, circled back and hung out shooting them for a bit. I didn't get too close. I didn't want to make them uncomfortable.

Sandhill Cranes just freeze sometimes. They barely blink. From my car, I saw a family digging in the mud and preening it into their feathers. I turned around and pulled in the parking lot nearby.
It's very hot here, and they stayed close to the pond, wading in and out. This is one of the parents watching over its mate and two juveniles who already had most of the red on their heads. I think he kind of blends in with the mulch in the background. These are mall cranes. They live near the Brandon Mall. There are a few families who reside in that territory.

Just what makes that little old ant, think he can move that rubber tree plant? Well, of course he has "high hopes", but he also has lots of friends and co-workers to help as well!
These ants were moving a...piece of food along the wall of our house. It looked like the better part of a bee. I'm a nerd, but I enjoyed watching them work together and how they kept their prize in the groove, moving it along the wall.
You know those motivational posters, with the rowing team, etc.? I doubt this would ever be a consideration, but I like their teamwork.

Oh how I love a good species debate! Thanks so much my nature nut friends!
These apple snail egg clusters were on the cement frame around the culvert under the driveway of this business area. As you can see, some of the egg clusters have dried and turned white. At least that's how it looked in real life.
Still don't know if they are invasive or not, but stay tuned for more interesting info from my Flickr Friends!

I took these photos on the fly after getting back from errands. Some fun errands, like taking Jessi to Campbell's Dairyland for her doggie cone (so cute, a tiny little cone with a little dog biscuit in it). Took my hubby shopping, less fun for him, even though it was about him. Got him some shorts and pants for his birthday, so he needed some shirts too. He doesn't like to shop. I'm lucky to get him out a couple of times a year for himself, and while I love more vibrant or unique colors, he likes neutrals. I have to put on a completely different view, and that's fun too. Note to self, learned something new after 9+ years. No V-neck T-shirts!

Unfortunately, sweet Mabel has been gone three weeks now. Our hearts are aching. I rescued Mabel over 11 years ago. She was one of those cats who loved you on her time, but when she did, she made you feel like the most splendid being on the planet.
We keep hoping she will show up and surprise us, as she has done in the past, but that was after only a couple of days. She was spayed before her first heat, so it’s not as though she is out cattin’ around. She was healthy and content. Sometimes cats go off to die if they are not well, but Mabel had just had a check up, and she was great.
She looks very serious in this shot with her pupils so sharp. I love that little gray spark on her chin. It looks like a cleft/dimple.
