Day 13 - Wine tasting in Southern Oregon.

Kate found this winemaker who is just starting her own label, primarily focusing on Rhone varietals. We emailed her,and ended up getting a private, personal tour of the facilities and got to taste some excellent wines.

While in Medford, Oregon we met Executive Chef James Rustin at Porters Dining at the Depot. What a delightful creative young man.

Since the pears were at their peak, Chef Rustin decided to prepare a light tasty pear treat, Porters Poached Rogue Valley Pears Panna Cotta. Or, at least it tasted light. James has done a terrific job with Porters menu and the atmosphere of dining in an old train depot is just plain fun.

38 on Central in Medford, Oregon has recently been redone with new everything. David Graham, Director/Partner; Michael Wolf, GM/Partner and Executive Chef Juan Murillo. The three bill 38 as "The Fine Art of Casual Dining."

Juan prepared a small plate with Beef Wellington with Duxelle Mushrooms and Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes.

Everything Juan prepares is considered straight forward American cuisine, with an emphasis on "comfort food classics."

One of 38's signature dishes is the Mac n' Cheese. It has truffle oil and let me tell you, the taste is fantastic.

Meford at Dusk, from Hillcrest. The sun had already set. I had seen a family of deer earlier, but it was too dark to capture them. As I came down from Roxy Ann, the last bits of sunset with what is Jupiter in the western sky. The moon has not yet risen.

Kael loves the water. We made sure we booked hotels with pools for our travel nights to let the kids work out some energy. We kept the drive times to around 6 hours (which actually took much longer with baby feeding and all other stops).

Kiera is still not comfortable in the water even with arm floaties unless I'm carrying her. She enjoys it then.
