Luray Caverns - Fried Eggs

Yep, Fried Eggs, that's what they call these.

This might be part of a formation called "Saracen's Tent".

DEAR ANCESTOR

Your tombstone stands among the rest.
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished marble and stone.

It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist.
You died and I was born.

Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.

Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred and forty years ago,
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.

I wonder if you lived and loved
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot
And come to visit you.

Author unknown...written for confederate soldiers, many of whom are hopefully resting in peace. The plaques of honor were everywhere, and I was truly humbled by their sacrifices and the serene feelings I got when I stepped beyond the gate.

3700 feet above sea level...and yes...it made me a little weak in the knees :)

Dream Lake, again?

I don't know much about taking pictures in low light conditions like the caverns. But I did my best.

Not sure what this is, but it looks cool.

I think this might be the part of the caverns they call "Dream Lake".

Above Luray

My son & I went up to Skyline Drive to meet a friend (and Photo Trekking Buddy), Jeff (Image Clicker) who wanted to capture some star shots.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't too co-operative with us. It was too hazy to get any really great shots though I did manage a few okay images. This is from Stony Gap overlook on Skyline Drive. This is overlooking the town of Luray Va. Luray is famous for it caverns which really are spectacular.

Sometimes the best shots aren't in front of you, but rather behind or of you. Jeff captured probably the best shot of the night with his "Crackberry". It was of my son helping me take pictures.
